How to Make Your Candle Last Longer

How to Make Your Candle Last Longer

There’s nothing worse than treating yourself to a new candle, only for it to burn unevenly, tunnel down the middle, or finish way too soon. The good news? With just a few simple tricks, you can make your candle last longer and enjoy every last bit of wax. Here’s how:

1. Trim That Wick ✂️

Before you light your candle, always trim the wick to about 5mm. A shorter wick helps the flame burn cleaner, reduces soot, and reduces mushrooming (those little black clumps on the end).

2. The First Burn 🕯️

On the very first burn, let your candle melt all the way to the edges of the jar. This sets the "memory" of the wax and prevents tunnelling — where the wax only melts down the middle. For most candles, that’s around 2–3 hours.

3. Don’t Overdo It ⏳

As tempting as it is to keep your candle burning all day, try not to let it go for more than 4 hours at a time. This helps the wax and wick last longer and keeps the scent throw at its best.

4. Safety First 🧯

Burn your candle on a flat, heat-safe surface and away from drafts — no one likes a flickering, uneven flame.

5. Pop the Lid Back On ✨

Once your candle has cooled completely, replace the lid. This simple step locks in the fragrance for a stronger scent throw, keeps dust and debris out, and helps your candle stay fresh and ready for its next burn.

The Takeaway

Caring for a candle is like perfecting your signature brew - or that one houseplant you've somehow kept alive. A little care goes a long way.

By trimming your wick, letting your candle fully pool, and not burning your candle for too long, you’ll maximise the time you get to enjoy your candle. And honestly, isn’t that what we all want?

See, we told you candle care was pretty cool.
